BSW Thread Cutting Set 1/4''–1'', 46-piece

The a+s ALBRECHT+SCHULTE tap and die set S504AS170 covers all common Whitworth inch threads (BSW) from 1/4" to 1". Nine three-piece hand tap sets according to DIN 2184-2 made of HSSG and nine HSS round dies according to DIN EN 22568 Form B form the core of the set. Together with two tap wrenches, six die holders, a Whitworth thread template, and a screwdriver, it creates a complete tap and die set for British inch threads – neatly organized in a robust plastic case with EVA foam insert.

Robust, British, durable.

BSW for classic inch threads.

BSW (British Standard Whitworth) threads are found on older machines, imported equipment, pipe fittings, and components with British thread standards. Wherever these traditional inch threads are used, a suitable tap and die set is essential. The HSSG hand taps in this set offer smooth cutting action and high dimensional accuracy, while the HSS dies create precise external threads or repair damaged threads. Thanks to three cutting stages per size (roughing, intermediate, and finishing), even larger diameters up to 1 inch can be produced with control and well-controlled cutting forces.

Suitcases & Organization.

Everything is in its right place.

The black plastic case with orange latches is designed for daily workshop and service use. The precisely fitting black/orange EVA foam insert securely holds each hand tap, die, and holder. Each position is labeled with the corresponding BSW size, so you can see at a glance which tool belongs where. The included a+s thread mat provides additional protection against scratches and also includes thread charts (M, UNC, UNF, BSW, BSP G) as well as an illustrated step-by-step guide to thread cutting. The case can be easily stored in a service vehicle or workshop van.

  • Robust PP plastic case with the striking a+s “cutting instead of chatting” design
  • EVA foam insert in black/orange for secure hold and quick overview
  • Labeled compartments for all BSW sizes from 1/4'' to 1''
  • Threaded mat with tables and instructions as additional scratch protection in the case

Advantages & Features.

Compiled for practical use.

This set is specifically designed for machining Whitworth inch threads. The combination of standard-compliant hand taps and dies, matching die holders, and two tap wrenches according to DIN 1814 enables the machining of a wide variety of component geometries – from easily accessible surfaces to tight installation spaces. The chrome-plated handles and die-cast zinc holders are dimensioned for workshop use and offer good torque while maintaining comfortable handling. The HSSG version of the taps ensures long tool life and clean cut surfaces.

  • Nine three-piece hand tap sets DIN 2184-2 HSSG for BSW 1/4''–1''
  • Nine HSS circular dies DIN EN 22568 Form B for external threads 1/4''–1''
  • Two adjustable tap wrenches DIN 1814 (No. 1 and No. 4)
  • Six die holders according to DIN EN 22568 from 20×7 to 55×22
  • Whitworth thread template for quick identification of Whitworth threads
  • 110 mm screwdriver for clamping and adjustment work

So that the thread is properly seated.

Areas of application.

The BSW thread cutting set is the ideal solution for working on machines, equipment, or components with British inch threads. Whether for the repair of older machines, work on imported equipment, model making, or restoration projects: the combination of internal and external threading tools allows for both new threads to be cut and damaged threads to be recut. The three-piece hand taps allow even large Whitworth threads to be machined in a controlled and gentle manner.

  • Manufacturing and repair of BSW internal threads 1/4''–1''
  • Cutting BSW external threads on bolts, rods and shafts
  • Maintenance and service of machines and equipment with British inch threads
  • Repairs and modifications to imported equipment and special-purpose machines
  • Use in workshops, service vehicles, training facilities and ambitious hobby workshops

Precision thread cutting with a+s

Thread cutting is one of the most important tasks in metalworking. With precise HSSG hand taps according to DIN 2184-2, dies according to DIN EN 22568 and matching holding tools, BSW internal and external threads can be cleanly produced or repaired – quickly, reliably and with professional dimensional accuracy.
